How Do I Get to Heaven?

How do I get to Heaven?

Let me first say how thrilled we are that you are reading this! You were created by a great, powerful, loving God who created you for His purposes. He has planned this moment in your life! He wants you to come into a relationship with Him; He wants to save you from the punishment for your sin, give you real life, and show you why you are on this earth!

Back to the question, how do you get to heaven? The only way, according to the Bible, that a person can go to heaven when they die is by having their sins forgiven by putting our faith in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.   The Bible uses many different terms that describe what happens when a person puts their faith in Jesus and becomes a Christians. When a person becomes a Christian they are “Born Again” (John 3:1-7, 1 Peter 1:3), they are “saved” (Romans 10:9-13, Titus 3:5), they become a “child of God” (John 1:12), and they are “justified”, declared “not guilty” (Titus 3:7).

What you need to know to be saved…

  1. We Need To Be Saved Because We Have Sinned.

Actually, the Bible tells us that we have all sinned. If we are honest, none of us would ever say, “no, not me.” We know that we have done wrong. In the Bible we read this…

“As it is written: ‘There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.’”  Romans 3:10–12

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”    Romans 3:23

“We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”   Isaiah 53:6

“Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.”  Psalm 51:5

“We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”   Isaiah 53:6

  1. The Wages Or Consequences For Our Sin Is Death

The punishment for our sin is death; this is God’s way of saying hell. Going to hell is referred to as the “second death”. Everyone who does not have their sin forgiven by believing in Jesus Christ will go to hell.

“For the wages of sin is death…”   Romans 6:23

“Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.”  John 3:18–19

“But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.”  Romans 2:8

“Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!”  Romans 5:9

“All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath.”  Ephesians 2:3

  1. But there is good news; Jesus wants to give you a gift.

The Father Sent Jesus To Die For Our Sin Because He Loves Us And Jesus Came Willingly

There is hope! Amazingly, Jesus Christ, who is God, came to the earth and took the punishment that we deserve upon Himself when He died on the cross.

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  Romans 5:8

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

“ and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood,”   Revelation 1:5

“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.” 1 Peter 1:18–19

  1. How do we receive salvation; what must we do to be saved? How do we get to heaven?

There is nothing we can do except to believe, to put our faith in the sacrifice of Jesus.

“That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”   Romans 10:9–10

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”  Acts 4:12

  1. Salvation is a Gift and it cannot be earned.   You will never “deserve” salvation; it is the undeserved favor (grace) of God.

“All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.”  Isaiah 64:6

“Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” John 6:28–29

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”  Ephesians 2:8–9

he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,”Titus 3:5
