I Made It On Broken Pieces
Acts 27:38–44
There are seasons when life does not turn out the way we expected. Plans change. Dreams fall apart. People leave. Doors close. Things we thought would carry us all the way suddenly break beneath us.
Paul understood that feeling. In Acts 27, he was caught in a violent storm. The crew lost their cargo, their equipment, control of the ship, and eventually the ship itself. Yet God had already given Paul a promise: he was going to make it to Rome. The ship might not survive, but Paul would.
Acts 27:44 says some escaped to land “on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship.” They did not make it on a whole ship. They made it on broken pieces.
Sometimes God’s faithfulness does not look like keeping everything from breaking. Sometimes His faithfulness is keeping you while everything around you is breaking.
You can make it on the broken pieces of God’s providence. When you cannot see His hand, you can still trust His heart. The storm may change your course, but it cannot cancel God’s promise.
You can make it on the broken pieces of God’s provision. They wanted the storm to stop, but God gave them strength to endure it. Sometimes God does not immediately remove the problem; He provides what you need to survive it.
And you can make it on the broken pieces of God’s purpose. Paul’s shipwreck landed him on Melita, where God used him to bring healing to an island. What looked like disaster in Acts 27 became ministry in Acts 28.
Maybe some things in your life have broken. Hold on to the piece. Hold on to the promise. Hold on to the Word. Hold on to the memory of God’s faithfulness.
God never promised the ship would make it, but He promised they would.
It’s not about how you make it. It’s that you make it.
